Midcentury Remodeling Rehab and Rescue

Many older homes are hitting the real estate market, like this one did. Originally constructed circa 1960, this large midcentury ranch style home was altered in 1980 to include window updates and an enclosed porch linking an in-law suite towards the rear. The new owners saw potential in this home and fell in love with the captivating views surrounding it. Allison Ong Shreffler, Architect was fortunate enough to the get the phone call to help with this remodeling rehab and rescue. These savvy homeowners are very detail oriented and wanted to enhance the 1960’s modern aesthetic with a craftsman edge. A flat roof screened in porch was removed and replaced with a new roofed entry canopy with stone veneer piers to complement the hipped rooflines of the main roof. White vinyl replacement windows were also removed from the entire home and replaced with bronze Pella windows, in configurations more appropriate for the era of the home.
The rear of the home, like many of Allison Ong Shreffler Architect’s projects, received just as much attention to detail as the front. The original addition was constructed utilizing many varied window styles and sizes that neither enhanced the interior or the exterior design. The connecting hallway was reconstructed with larger bronze Pella windows and sliding patio doors. A new walkway and deck are being constructed to capitalize on the exterior views, while extending the interiors to the outside. The new master bedroom suite will also have sliding patio doors allowing the couple to fully engage in the natural landscape.
